Command hand-animated pixel art armies in a much-loved turn-based fantasy strategy game. Seventeen single-player campaigns, online and hotseat multiplayer, and a huge library of free add-ons.
The Battle for Wesnoth is made by the Battle for Wesnoth Project and its community of contributors. It is an open-source, turn-based strategy game with a high fantasy theme. You recruit units and lead them into battle, making the most of each unit's distinctive abilities, weapons and spells. Campaigns let you reclaim a rightful throne, flee the Lich Lords to a new home across the sea or defend a kingdom against a foul necromancer. There are 17 single-player campaigns, 55 multiplayer maps and over 200 unit types in seven major factions, with semi-realistic portraits used for dialogue. Play online, over a local network or hotseat, and download new campaigns, factions and maps from the official add-ons server. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, is translated into more than 30 languages, and is also available on Steam and itch.io.
