The people behind PUBG Ally—and the challenge of useful AI teammates
KRAFTON's research lead and project manager explain why a companion needs more than believable dialogue.

A teammate with a different architecture
NVIDIA's June 2026 interview features KRAFTON research lead Hyunseung Kim and project manager Yujeong Son discussing PUBG Ally. The project combines speech understanding, a small language model and speech output with gameplay systems. A behaviour-tree layer handles fast movement and combat, while a language-model layer supports more deliberate coordination.
A bounded test, not a permanent availability claim
The interview describes a public beta running from 17 to 30 June 2026. That test window is in the past. This article examines the team's published engineering approach and does not claim the companion is currently available in every PUBG mode or region.
The Oasis take
A useful companion must act at the right moment, not just speak fluently. For indie experiments, begin with one cooperative task: identify an objective, follow a route or offer a resource. Measure failures, keep the response time predictable and provide a mute or disable option. Treat any remembered player information deliberately and explain how it is used. The strongest AI feature is often the one that quietly improves a player's experience. This is independent editorial coverage, not an Oasis integration with PUBG or NVIDIA.
